This traditional style of Okinawan weaponry is headed by Hiroshi Akamine Kaicho. Weapons taught are Bo, Sai, Nunchaku, Tekko, Tunfa, Tinbe, Kama and Ekku. We are pleased to be the first to offer this style of training in Auckland.
Our history and lineage
Hiroshi Akamine is a master of Ryukyu Kobudo 9th dan, Shorin-Ryu 9th dan. President of the Ryukyu Kobudo Shimbukan and Vice President of Okinawa Karate and Kobudo Federation.
The Shimbukan Dojo in Okinawa was first opened in 1971 by Eisuke Akamine Sensei who was a student of Shinken Taira and Seiichiro Higa sensei. In 1999 Eisuke Akamine Sensei passed away and the Shimbukan Dojo was taken over by his son Hiroshi Akamine Sensei who is Chairman of the Shimbukan.
Every year, students from all over the world travel to Okinawa to train at the famous Shimbukan Hombu dojo.
